FERGUSON TO CONGRATULATE STUDENTS APPOINTED TO U.S. SERVICE ACADEMIES

On Thursday, April 14, 2022, U.S. Congressman Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) will host an event to honor ten young men and women from the Third District who have received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY, U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY, and U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO.

The ceremony and reception will held be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Peachtree City Council Chambers. During the event, Congressman Ferguson will provide remarks and present each of the nominees with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition.

“These impressive young men and women have exhibited superior academic achievement, leadership, and unwavering character, and their decision to serve by attending one of our nation’s Service Academies makes the Third District and our country proud,” Ferguson said. “Each and every one of these students is representing our community’s best and brightest, and it’s an honor to nominate them. I am confident they have extremely bright futures, and I look forward to celebrating them during a local reception on April 14th.”

The following candidates received an appointment to one or more of America’s Services Academies:

  1. William Gray, of Williamson (Pike County High School), to the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Naval Academy
  2. Mary Bridget Greiff, of Peachtree City (McIntosh High School) to the U.S. Air Force Prep School
  3. Gabe Hankinson, of Sharpsburg (University of West Georgia), to the United States Military Academy at West Point 
  4. Emma Grace Hepler, of Peachtree City Starr’s Mill High School), to the United States Military Academy at West Point 
  5. Carter Hudson, of Peachtree City (McIntosh High School), to the U.S. Air Force Academy
  6. Thayer Jones, of Columbus (University of Texas A&M), to the United States Military Academy at West Point
  7. Ian Kelley, of Columbus (Columbus High School) to the United States Military Academy at West Point
  8. Ashley Rubiano, of Peachtree City (Starr’s Mill High School), received the Foundation Scholarship for Prep School to U.S. Naval Academy
  9. Jared Rhymer, of Brooks (Georgia Military College), to the United States Military Academy at West Point
  10. Grant Ward, of Sharpsburg (Northgate High School), to the U.S. Air Force Academy
Each year, Congressman Ferguson nominates eligible students for consideration for appointment to the United States Air Force, Naval, Military, and Merchant Marine Academies. An academy appointment entitles a student to the equivalent of a full undergraduate scholarship, including room and board, medical and dental care, and a monthly pay allowance. Upon graduation, the student will become a commissioned officer in the United States Military.
