Governor Brian Kemp: Abrams Protects Gang Leaders, Trashes Law Enforcement

(Athens, GA) – During a campaign rally in Dalton, radical Stacey Abrams accused law enforcement of terrorizing families. This should come as no surprise because Abrams’ shameful voting record in the State House matches her extreme rhetoric on the campaign trail. In 2017, Abrams voted against legislation (SB160) to enhance penalties on gang leaders and those who harm public safety officials. In response, the Kemp for Governor campaign released the following statement:

“Brian Kemp has a long record of backing our law enforcement community,” said Press Secretary, Cody Hall. “In the State Senate, Kemp chaired the Public Safety Committee and led bipartisan reforms in courthouse security. As Secretary of State, Kemp championed legislation to crack down on illegal massage parlors and partnered with local law enforcement to shut down prostitution rings in Metro Atlanta.

“Endorsed by hundreds of law enforcement leaders, Brian Kemp will crush street gangs, curb sex trafficking, tackle the opioid epidemic, and keep Georgia families safe.

“Sadly, Stacey Abrams has a long track record of attacking, undermining, and endangering our men and women in uniform. In the legislature, Abrams voted ‘no’ to ‘Back The Badge’ legislation to protect law enforcement officers. She rejected legislation to punish ruthless gang leaders that are filling our communities with violence, drugs, and fear.  Abrams put her radical agenda first and walked on a bill to end sex trafficking in Georgia.

“When it comes to public safety, Stacey Abrams is just too extreme for Georgia. She wants to abolish ICE, end cash bail, ignore the gang crisis, and undermine law and order. Clearly, Stacey Abrams cares more about appeasing her California donors than keeping our children safe.”
