Governor Brian Kemp: Abrams Wants to Follow California’s Lead and End Cash Bail

Georgia

(Athens, GA) – Stacey Abrams is a radical liberal with an extreme plan to undermine public safety in Georgia. Today, Kemp for Governor released the following statements on Abrams’ proposal to end cash bail:

“Brian Kemp is a father, husband, and businessman with detailed plans to keep Georgia families safe,” said Press Secretary Cody Hall. “Building on Governor Deal’s criminal justice reform initiatives, Kemp will dismantle street gangs, crush sex trafficking, and tackle the opioid epidemic.

“Stacey Abrams unapologetically advocates for an end to cash bail. Law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges agree that her plan will flood the streets with criminals but Abrams is more concerned with appeasing her billionaire backers than doing the right thing.

“By ending cash bail in Georgia, Abrams will severely limit judicial discretion, end the incentive for the accused to have their day in court, and ultimately make our neighborhoods, communities, and state unsafe.

“Abrams’ bad votes in the Georgia General Assembly are one thing. Advancing an initiative that will turn Georgia into the next California is something else. Clearly, she’s too radical and too extreme to be our governor.”
