ATLANTA – When conservative small businessman Brian Kemp announced his plan to increase teacher pay by $5,000 in his first term during the 2018 campaign for Governor, Stacey Abrams called it an “election year gimmick” and told Georgia voters the governor could not be trusted to get it done.
Following the completion of that pay raise – the largest in state history – this year by Governor Kemp without raising taxes, Abrams today announced her plans to saddle Georgians with billions more in state government spending annually and demanded the state’s taxpayers foot the bill for her far-left agenda.
“Governor Kemp fulfilled his pledge to raise educator pay by $5,000 in his first term – the largest teacher pay boost in state history,” said Tate Mitchell, Press Secretary. “This historic investment was accompanied by fully funding our schools, reducing high-stakes testing, empowering retired educators to return to teach in high-needs areas, boosting funding for school security and mental health services, and keeping partisan politics out of the classroom. Following the lead of her pals in the Biden Administration, Stacey Abrams’ latest Hail Mary proposal for over $2 billion in new state spending annually joins an ever-growing pile of pie-in-the-sky plans that would make inflation worse and require higher taxes on Georgia families to pay for it all.”
