Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray’s Campaign announced the launch of two new TV and digital ads in the wake of the ruling by the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. Murray is leading Senate Democrats in the fight to protect abortion rights and the Washington Post referred to her as, “the single most effective Democratic combatant against Republican attempts to restrict abortion and otherwise roll back reproductive health-care rights on Capitol Hill.”

The first ad, “Won’t Back Down” features Murray, strongly affirming her commitment to protecting abortion rights for women and patients in Washington state.

“It is a horrifying reality–extreme politicians across our country, now in charge of the most private healthcare decisions,” says Murray in a no-frills direct-to-camera address to voters. “The Supreme Court may have ruled. But it’s up to us to make sure they don’t get the final word. I won’t stop fighting until we guarantee reproductive freedom for every American. We will not be still. We will not be silent. We will not back down.”

In the second ad, “Abortion Ban”, Dr. Judy Kimelman, MD, a Washington state OB-GYN physician, calls attention to Republican candidate Tiffany Smiley’s extreme anti-abortion stance and the very real threat of a national abortion ban if Republicans win a U.S. Senate seat in Washington state. Today, Smiley released a statement praising the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe. v. Wade. Smiley has previously endorsed a Texas-style abortion ban.

“Now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe V. Wade and states across the nation are banning abortion. You think women’s reproductive health care is safe here in Washington?” says Dr. Kimelman. “Not with Mitch McConnell’s handpicked candidate Tiffany Smiley in the Senate.”

Both ads are now airing on TV and digital platforms. As a voice for Washington state, Murray has never backed down in the fight to protect abortion rights. Senator Murray led efforts in the Senate to pass legislation that would protect a woman’s right to abortion, she has led Senate Democrats in pressing President Biden to do everything in his power to protect abortion rights, and she continues to call on all Americans help deliver a pro-choice majority in the Senate this November in order to send President Biden a bill to protect the right to abortion across the country.
