Gwinnett NAACP President Penny Poole harshly admonished Congresswoman Lucy McBath for missing the Gwinnett candidates forum on Monday, May 2, 2022. She ended her comments by urging McBath to come to the district and speak with constituents.
"We must note that Representative McBath, previously of the sixth congressional district, declined our invitation on today to personally address the black community and other people of color in Gwinnett tonight," said Penny Poole. "We are not standing on legacies; we are standing on integrity...Representative McBath, we challenge you to bring your voice to the people of Gwinnett and meet the real Gwinnettians who work for and are vested in the people of Gwinnett."
McBath was the only candidate in the race who did not attend the forum. District 7's Incumbent Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux and State Representative Donna McLeod participated in a two-hour-long dialogue on top-of-mind issues concerning constituents of color like immigration, voting rights, and reparations.
"As the Congresswoman from Gwinnett, my priority is engaging with my constituents in a meaningful way. While I've done over 215 community events since taking office, McBath has made it clear that she doesn't need to meet you," said Congresswoman Carolyn Bourdeaux. "Unlike McBath, I do not take your vote for granted. I show up and deliver for our diverse community. I care about you and your story, and I ask for your vote in the primary on 5/24."
Congresswoman Bourdeaux will be available for interviews upon request. To request an interview, contact Titilayo Okuwa at 407-223-0016 or press@carolyn4congress.com.
