Yesterday, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02) supported H.R. 4040, the Advancing Telehealth Beyond COVID-19 Act. This bill ensures continuing access to telehealth services to all Medicare patients after the COVID-19 pandemic. The bill allows Medicare beneficiaries to continue to receive quality telehealth services from their homes. Further, the legislation expands coverage of telehealth services to all Medicare beneficiaries, not only those in rural areas.
“For many Americans, including our senior citizens, telehealth helps bridge the distance between them and their doctors,” said Congressman Bishop. “During the COVID-19 pandemic telehealth allowed doctors and nurses to care for more patients more safely, especially those people who could not leave home or lived far from their doctor’s office. This bill takes a much-needed step forward in helping to ensure Medicare beneficiaries continue to have access to telehealth services.”
The bill was approved by an overwhelming, bipartisan vote of 416-12. The bill now goes to the United States Senate for a vote.
