Michigan

John Gibbs, who is seeking the Republican nomination to represent Michigan's 3rd Congressional District, released the following statement on Rep. Peter Meijer's vote today to strip away 2nd Amendment Constitutional rights:

"My primary opponent Peter Meijer became one of only 14 Republicans to join Nancy Pelosi and every Democrat in the House to strip away 2nd Amendment Constitutional Rights, by voting for the so-called "Bipartisan Safer Communities Act" which, contrary to its name, will do nothing to make communities safer. Removing 2nd Amendment Rights while throwing in more federal money and programs, will not fix the broken families, fatherlessness, dysfunctional culture, and media hysteria, which lie at the root of the dramatic increases in crime, both inside and outside of schools. We must have the courage to address real root causes, rather than embrace superficial, big government fixes.

And you can bet that those who want you disarmed aren’t done yet - today is only a stepping stone on the path to even more theft of our precious Constitutional rights.

Meijer’s vote today shows that he is clearly out of step with those who elected them, and with all West Michiganders who treasure their Second Amendment rights.

When elected, I will never compromise your God-given Constitutional rights, especially the right to keep and bear arms.”
