Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02), Ranking Member of the Investor Protection, Entrepreneurship, and Capital Markets Subcommittee, released the following statement after Chairwoman Maxine Waters and Democrats on the Financial Services Committee rejected his amendment for bipartisan budget control on legislation that falls under the jurisdiction of the House Financial Services Committee. In yesterday’s party line vote, 23 Republicans supported the fiscally responsible measure and 29 Democrats opposed.
“The purpose of this amendment was simple: we must take the first small step to control government spending and restore fiscal responsibility,” said Congressman Bill Huizenga. “Under this amendment, any legislation that creates over $10 million in new spending, whether it was put forward by a Democrat or a Republican, must cut spending of an equal amount in another portion of the federal budget. Maintaining a budget and defining priorities are decisions every family and small business must make. This is a commonsense position that Congress should adopt.”
