(Houston, TX) – On Monday, February 22, 2021, Congressman Al Green attended the preview of NRG Park’s federally supported community vaccination center. NRG Park is located in the Ninth Congressional District, which Congressman Green proudly represents in Congress. He released the following statement:
“Today, I am proud to welcome my colleagues and friends to the Ninth Congressional District for the federally supported community vaccination center at NRG Park,” stated Congressman Al Green. “Typically known for its large-scale events, Texans games, and, of course, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, NRG has served as a cornerstone for relief efforts during the unprecedented coronavirus crisis. I am eager to see this complex now be used as a vaccination super site that will make the COVID-19 vaccine more accessible to Houstonians who qualify under Phases 1A and 1B.”
“This community vaccination center will offer more than 100,000 people the opportunity to receive the vaccine over an eight-week period. The site will administer shots to 6,000 people per day, seven days a week, offering first doses for three weeks starting February 23 and transitioning to second doses thereafter.”
Congressman Green added, “We have asked our constituents to help us stop the spread of this deadly virus by staying home, masking up, and social distancing. As holders of public trust, we must continue to help our constituents by providing relief and mitigating disease transmission. We do this by passing the $1.9 trillion COVID relief package soon and expanding access to free testing and vaccine opportunities.”
He continued, “I have drafted and invited my colleagues on the various levels of government to sign a letter requesting that President Biden prioritize the Greater Houston area in his planned visit to Texas. The Greater Houston area has endured a crisis within a crisis as we battled Winter Storm Uri and COVID-19 simultaneously, both of which exacerbated chronic issues within our communities.”
“As we assess damages to homes and discuss measures to prevent widespread power and water outages in the wake of last week’s severe winter weather, we must also continue to assess and control the spread of coronavirus as people have been displaced from their homes seeking shelter with relatives, at hotels, and at local warming centers.”
