Today, the SEIU Local 1 endorsed state Senator Adam Hollier for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. Service Employees International Union Local 1 is composed of 50,000 working people throughout the Midwest including janitors, security officers, higher education faculty, school custodians, and food service workers. Local 1 is the founding Local of the Service Employees International Union and was started in Chicago in 1904.

“As a longtime janitor in Michigan and Vice President of Local 1, I am so proud that SEIU Local 1 is endorsing Senator Hollier for Congress,” said Pam Owens-Moore, Vice President and Political Action Committee leader. “Senator Hollier has demonstrated a strong commitment to fighting for economic, racial, immigrant and environmental justice for our state’s working families. I have seen the immense impact he has had on his community and I know he will continue to fight and deliver for working people everywhere.”

“I am honored to have SEIU Local 1’s support in this race,” State Senator Adam Hollier said. “I’ve worked with them throughout my career, fighting to make sure our workers are respected, protected and paid as professionals. Having the support of the everyday heroes who went to work during the height of the pandemic means so much because SEIU Local 1 only supports people focused on working people's issues - and I’m proud they are choosing to stand with me.”

SEIU Local 1 joins this long list of organizations and individuals who support Hollier for Congress, including the following in the union space: AFSCME Local 25, UFCW Local 476, SEIU Healthcare Michigan, Pipefitters Steamfitters Union 636, Plumbers Union Detroit Local 98, UNITE HERE! Hospitality Workers Union Local 24, among others.
