Congressman Jimmy Gomez’ re-election campaign picked up the support of two prominent LGBTQ+ groups, Equality California and the Stonewall Democrats of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles, March 24, 2022 – Congressman Jimmy Gomez continues to burnish his progressive credentials, releasing endorsements this week from some of the largest LGBTQ+ groups in California and the nation.
Stonewall Democrats, the first “Stonewall Democratic Club” in the country originally chartered in 1975, overwhelmingly endorsed Congressman Gomez for re-election saying:
“The Stonewall Democrats are proud to stand with Congressman Gomez again this year” said Alex Mohajer, President of the Stonewall Democrats. “He is not only a member of the LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus in DC, but he is a true friend and ally here at home. We know that we can count on him to be a leader in the effort to the repeal discriminatory laws, eliminate hate-motivated violence, and improve health and wellbeing for all regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.”
Additionally, Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ+ civil rights organization counting over 900,000 members, spoke to the Congressman’s lengthy history of LGBTQ+ allyship and support.
“Congressman Gomez has always been a strong ally and pro-equality champion for LGBTQ+ Californians,” said Equality California Executive Director Tony Hoang. “From advancing civil rights legislation in the State Assembly to his work in Congress fighting for the Equality Act, expanding mental health support services for LGBTQ+ people and helping to eliminate barriers to healthcare for the trans community; we know that we can always rely on Jimmy Gomez to proudly fight for full, lived LGBTQ+ equality in Congress.”
In the endorsement process, Congressman Gomez spoke to his personal connection with LGBTQ+ community, pointing to his experience from when his brother came out and the lessons he learned on the importance and power of real allyship.
Adding the powerful LGBTQ+ organizations to his growing list of politically potent allies proves that Congressman Gomez has not forgotten those lessons as he continues to build his re-election campaign and prepare for a new term.
