BOSTON – Today, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) issued the following statement on the historic swearing in of Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court:

“During a dark time in our nation’s history, today is a beacon of light and a momentous occasion for our country and for little Black girls everywhere.

“The swearing in of now Justice Jackson is a legacy that cannot be stripped away. Justice Jackson represents hope for a future that is inclusive and equitable, and I look forward to her work to bring legitimacy and true justice to the Supreme Court.

“Today we make space for joy and celebration of the first Black woman to be sworn into the Supreme Court – and recommit to the fight for equal justice under law. While Justice Jackson is the first, she will not be the last.”

Rep. Pressley applauded Justice Jackson’s nomination and confirmation after joining her fellow Black congresswomen in the House of Representatives urging President Biden to appoint a Black woman to the Supreme Court with a strong track record of advancing civil rights.
