Governor Charlie Baker arrived in Springfield Tuesday afternoon by train. He and other officials are working to highlight the East-West rail, which would connect Boston with Pittsfield and Springfield.

That project is now on track to move forward after the governor signed an infrastructure bond bill earlier this month.

Baker was joined by Congressman Richard Neal, Amtrak CEO Stephen Gardner, and other MassDOT officials who took the Amtrak theater car from South Station in Boston to Union Station in Springfield.

The governor said this time on the train gave them the opportunity to discuss issues with the train platforms and tracks in real-time between Springfield and Boston. He noted that this project will be a priority for him during his time left in office.

Baker said their goal is to keep up the momentum and make sure it continues into the next administration.
