Earl L. Carter: Major win for patients in No Surprises Act ruling

A federal judge struck down portions of the Biden Administration’s regulations implementing the bipartisan No Surprises Act.

This bill represents a multi-year commitment to increasing the affordability of health care by eliminating surprise medical bills from out-of-network providers.

The Biden Administration’s implementation of the legislation expressly ignored legislative intent, allowing insurance companies to secure windfalls at the expense of patients, forcing a federal judge in Texas to strike it down.

Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA), who supported the No Surprises Act and signed a letter urging the Biden Administration to revise its regulations, heralded the ruling as a win for patients:

“The No Surprises Act is strong legislation that puts patients before providers. After decades of bipartisan and bicameral work and compromise, the Biden Administration must respect the legislative process and implement the legislation as written,” said Carter.
