Yesterday, Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, hosted a meet and greet with seniors in Milwaukee for the new grassroots coalition, “Mandela For Seniors.”

Mandela met with the “Seniors For Mandela” members to discuss the issues that concern them most regarding Social Security and Medicare. He also spoke about his dedication to protecting the hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin retirees who are at risk of losing their benefits and means of living.

Seniors for Mandela is just the latest coalition supporting Mandela in his campaign for U.S. Senate. Across the state, farmers, union leaders, teachers, small business owners, working people, and seniors are ready to defeat Sen. Ron Johnson and elect Mandela Barnes as their next senator.

Democrat Mandela Barnes held a speech Monday at Vennture Brew Co. in Milwaukee’s Washington Heights neighborhood.

Barnes says the views and actions of his opponent, Republican incumbent Ron Johnson, are taking opportunities away from people like Barnes’ mother, a former teacher, and his father, a former assembly line worker. Both worked union jobs.

Barnes says politicians like Johnson are out of touch with what voters want.

“The idea that [Ron Johnson]’s fine with our jobs going out of state, like in Oshkosh, where we had the opportunity to create 1,000 good paying union jobs. He was ok with that. He was ok with that because it’s not about us, it’s about lining the pockets of his wealthy donors. But that stops, that stops now.”
