Before he sold out Oshkosh workers by siding with the company that wanted to send 1,000 good-paying jobs to South Carolina instead of Wisconsin, Ron Johnson promised to facilitate a meeting between Oshkosh Defense and UAW Local 578, according to new reporting from the Green Bay Press Gazette.

But the meeting never happened and months later Johnson tried to defend his actions by claiming “It’s not like we don’t have enough jobs here in Wisconsin.”

During a meet and greet with Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, Tim Jacobson, UAW Local 578 explained how Ron Johnson broke his promise to Wisconsin union leaders in favor of his corporate donor. Watch Jacobson’s full remarks here.

Green Bay Press Gazette: In early 2021, Oshkosh Corp. secured a multibillion-dollar federal contract to build up to 165,000 postal trucks requiring 1,000 new assembly workers.

Just months later, Oshkosh Defense announced it would not build the postal trucks at its existing Oshkosh assembly lines but shift production to an industrial site in South Carolina.

Oshkosh UAW member Tim Jacobson told the crowd Tuesday that Johnson promised union members a meeting between them and Oshkosh Corp. leadership in February but never delivered on that promise.

“Ron Johnson doesn’t care about us,” Jacobson said. “He cares about his wealthy corporations like Oshkosh Corporation.”
