Wisconsin

Earlier this year, Ron Johnson stood in the way of bringing good-paying Wisconsin union jobs to the state, claiming that there were enough jobs in the state and letting 1,000 Oshkosh Defense jobs head to South Carolina.

Ahead of Labor Day, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, joined The Rick Smith Show on WCPT820 Radio to discuss the importance of defending Wisconsin union jobs. He also discussed Ron Johnson’s proposal to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block, putting hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin retirees at risk of losing their livelihoods and the benefits they paid into throughout their entire lives. In addition to cutting these essential programs, Johnson has also suggested hauling seniors out of retirement to put them back to work.

Here are some highlights from the Lt. Governor’s Interview:

“That’s actually what’s at stake with this election, because the jobs that we’re fighting for  — the type of jobs that you can raise a family on, the type of jobs that let your kids go to college, if that’s what they choose, or let you take care of your parents if they get sick and not have to worry about putting food on the table. It is the type of jobs that will rebuild the middle class in Wisconsin and across the country. It is quite clear that Ron Johnson is against opportunities, opportunities for Wisconsin, opportunities for America, for that matter.

“Ron Johnson cannot have a much more out of touch position on this issue. He has no right to take these benefits that people work hard for. And that’s why I’m running for the Senate to work to shore up Social Security, to ensure that every person has a fair shot to work hard to achieve success, and retire with the benefits that they earn. And [that] also means making sure that wealthy Americans pay their fair share and keep the system strong.”
