Don Bacon started his TV advertising campaign this morning and wasted no time outright lying to Nebraska voters.
Bacon’s ad claims that he “capped insulin prices at $35 a month,” attempting to take credit for supposedly saving Nebraskans money on their prescriptions. However, insulin prices have only been capped for seniors on Medicare – and Bacon voted against the bill that did so, calling it “reckless and partisan.”
The Inflation Reduction Act, passed earlier this month, includes a cap on insulin costs at $35 a month for seniors on Medicare. Instead of working across the aisle to vote for that measure to save Nebraskans money, Bacon sided with his corporate industry donors and refused to break ranks, voting against it. Bacon has received more than $50,000 in campaign contributions from the prescription drug industry.
“Only a true Washington politician like Don Bacon could vote against capping insulin costs for seniors, then turn around and attempt to claim credit for it,” said Vargas Campaign Manager, Meg Mandy. “The truth is Rep. Bacon not only voted against capping insulin costs, but also against allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower drug prices. He put his drug industry donors over the interests of Nebraskans, and no matter how often he lies about it, voters see who he’s really working for.”
