Following reports this weekend that prisoners at Guantanamo Bay would be offered the COVID-19 vaccine, Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) today joined colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives to introduce legislation to prohibit the federal government from providing the vaccine to detainees at Guantanamo Bay ahead of Americans.
"It's unbelievable that we need to introduce this legislation, but after it was reported that the Biden Administration was planning to give terrorists at Guantanamo Bay the COVID-19 vaccine possibly starting this week, it's necessary," said Carter. "As Americans across the country wait their turn to get vaccinated, it's unacceptable that this was even considered. Senior citizens, health care workers, teachers, and other front line workers and vulnerable populations need to be our priority, not terrorists."
Carter is an original cosponsor of the Vaccinate Americans, Not Terrorists Act that was introduced today. The legislation would prohibit the federal government from providing a COVID-19 vaccine to detainees at Guantanamo Bay if there are Americans without access.
