Today, in a continued avalanche of support and momentum in the Democratic primary race for governor, Charlie Crist earned the endorsement of the Tampa Bay Times.

The Tampa Bay Times endorsement follows Crist’s dominating performance in the Democratic primary debate, after which he earned the endorsement of the Orlando Sentinel, South Florida Sun Sentinel, VoteWater, a nonpartisan environmental protection organization, and leading progressive Democrats around the state including, Senator Jason Pizzo, School Board Member Jennifer Jenkins, and State Representative Kevin Chambliss.

To date, Crist is the only Democratic gubernatorial candidate to earn the endorsement of any major Florida newspaper.

“The support is pouring in all across the state for our movement to build a Florida for all,” said Charlie Crist. “The Tampa Bay Times is not only a leading paper across our state, it’s my hometown paper. I’m honored to receive their support and backing as we fight to unseat Governor DeSantis and bring reasonable leadership, decency, and mutual respect back to the Sunshine State. In November, Florida is turning blue. Let’s win this thing!”

Standout Excerpts from the Tampa Bay Times’s Recommendation Include:

  • “Crist was a household name in Florida long before DeSantis emerged from Donald Trump’s shadow. Voters know him as measured, experienced and utterly decent, and unfailingly committed to Florida. What better contrast in November?”
  • “This primary is about winning the general election, plain and simple, and Democrats need their eyes on the prize… The Tampa Bay Times recommends Charlie Crist in the Democratic primary for governor.”
  • “Crist has demonstrated his commitment to put Floridians first, and Democrats should have confidence he will do so this time around.”
  • “His experience, agenda and personality offer the sharpest possible contrast with the Republican incumbent, and we recommend Crist to Democrats in the Aug. 23 primary.”
  • “Crist could work with moderate Republicans in the Legislature on a range of bipartisan concerns, from education and infrastructure to job development and criminal justice reform. And his centrist instincts and reasonableness should appeal to independents.”
