Denver, CO — Political outsider, successful business leader, and Republican nominee for U.S. Senate Joe O'Dea announced today the top two legislative priorities he will be pursuing when elected to the U.S. Senate.
"The same old isn't working," said Joe O'Dea. "My agenda is common sense; it’s about the future. I’ve been talking about working Americans this whole campaign. Moving this country forward should be our number one priority—Challenge D.C., Build Colorado. It’s simple, every Senator should challenge the D.C. status quo and put what’s best for their state first, but few do. I will."
Priority 1: Reduce Biden-era spending to reduce inflation and the deficit; re-prioritize funding away from the bureaucracy to protect our kids, communities, and border instead
"This election is a referendum on the trillions in spending and debt by President Joe Biden and Senator Michael Bennet that’s caused this inflation crisis. The American people have watched in disgust while both parties have run-up the debt over the last 25 years."
"With a substantial portion of spending cuts, we should drive down the deficit. We need to get the deficit back to pre-pandemic levels, and work in a concerted way to fully balance the budget over time."
"The other part is reprioritizing federal spending. We should zero-out the 87,000 new IRS agents and cut the federal bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., and make a massive investment in border security —including a border wall— and hire more police to protect our neighborhoods and schools instead."
"The border is bleeding fentanyl, our cities are overrun by crime, and too many of our schools just aren’t safe. That should be the focus of our resources, not turning the IRS into the 4th branch of the federal government. Finally, I’m in favor of giving the Dreamers full legal status as part of it. Those kids belong here. They’re Americans."
"We should do in the first month or two what politicians like Michael Bennet talk about and never do: reform spending, secure the border with more border agents and a wall, fix the immigration system, and restore safety in our cities by getting resources to our sheriffs and police chiefs to hire more cops and pay them better."
Priority 2: Establish American energy dominance to reduce inflation and undercut the power of Putin and energy-rich tyrants
"My second priority centers on restoring America's energy dominance. We need a government-wide focus that embraces American energy production of all kinds — wind, solar, nuclear, natural gas and oil. We need a smart regulatory approach that leverages innovation to continue to drive down carbon emissions to address climate change. At the forefront of this national push, America needs a bold approach to permitting reform to get all sources of energy producing in a more robust, clean, and sustainable way."
"Let’s unleash American innovation; let’s modernize permitting and bring more clean energy online like wind, solar, and nuclear. Let’s expand federal oil and gas leasing – our oil and gas is produced with tougher, smarter regulations than any other nation in the world. Let’s get pipelines moving. Let’s get natural gas permits on the Western Slope and across the United States, along with LNG terminal permits, in the review process and approved and open new markets for our natural gas in Europe and Asia."
"By flooding the European and Asian markets with clean American natural gas, we can bring down emissions worldwide. American energy leadership is good for the world. Let’s throw the door open to an American energy revival that’s so bold that it drives a stake in the heart of this inflation crisis and sends a message to Vladimir Putin and the Russians: the world doesn’t need your energy anymore."
"Expanding energy production is one of the most important things we can do to attack America’s inflation crisis. Higher energy prices are the primary driver of inflation, making food, gas, and manufacturing more expensive. We can become a stronger country and help struggling families by reversing Biden’s war on energy. I won’t stop until we have a government-wide focus — and permitting reform to back it — that restores American energy dominance."
