Today, U.S. Representative Jim Langevin endorsed General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner in the race to succeed Langevin in the second congressional district. Langevin has represented the second congressional district for twenty-two years.
“Seth has served the second congressional district for the last eight years, fixing crumbling school buildings and creating clean energy jobs from Westerly to Warwick. I know Seth will continue to fight for Rhode Islanders in Congress by focusing on creating good-paying jobs, protecting Social Security and Medicare, and lowering the price of prescription drugs. I am proud to endorse Seth Magaziner to represent Rhode Island’s second congressional district,” stated U.S. Representative Jim Langevin.
Congressman Langevin further added, “Just as Rhode Islanders have trusted me these last 22 years, I’m asking you to trust me now that Seth Magaziner is the best candidate to continue what we started together. There is simply no doubt Seth is the strongest candidate to keep the seat in Democratic control and fight back against dangerous and divisive leaders like Kevin McCarthy and Donald Trump who are undermining our democracy and threatening working Rhode Islanders.”
The Rhode Island Democratic Party endorsed Magaziner on Sunday, joining the National Organization for Women, the League of Conservation Voters, the RI AFL-CIO, the RI Building Trades Council, over a dozen other unions, and local elected and community leaders from across the district.
Magaziner has served the second congressional district as General Treasurer since 2015 and is the only Democrat in the race to have won elections in the second congressional district before, winning the district in his 2014 and 2018 campaigns for state treasurer. He is also the only Democrat in the race who outraised Fung last quarter.
“I am incredibly thankful for Congressman Langevin’s endorsement of our campaign and his leadership over the 22 years he’s been fighting for Rhode Islanders in Congress,” said General Treasurer and congressional candidate Seth Magaziner. “With Washington Republicans poised to overturn the Affordable Care Act, cut Social Security, and end a woman’s right to choose, there is so much at stake in this election and we must keep the second district in Democratic control.”
