Today, Congressman Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township), member of the House Education and Labor Committee and workforce policy expert, released the following statement:

“Today’s jobs report shows that our economic recovery from the pandemic has continued, with an uninterrupted trend of positive job growth including 372,000 jobs created last month alone. I’m pleased to see that the formal unemployment rate has remained low at 3.6 percent.

“Despite ongoing progress, working Americans are not feeling great about the strength of our economy and labor market due to rising global inflation. As the economy bounces back, we must remain focused on lowering costs—including but not limited to gas prices, daily necessities in the grocery store, prescription drugs and higher education.

“While there are reports of some progress on Build Back Better negotiations in the Senate, President Biden can act urgently by delivering bold executive action to put hundreds of dollars a month back into the pockets of millions of families who are struggling to pay their bills. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues in the House and Senate and with the President to do everything we can to help working families in this critical moment.”
