This week, the House of Representatives voted to include Congressman Andy Levin's (D-Bloomfield Township) five amendments in this year's National Defense Authorization Act. Congressman Levin released the following statement:

“I’m pleased to see that five of my amendments to the defense authorization bill are headed to the other side of the Capitol for the Senate to consider. These measures underscore Michiganders’ needs and values. They include provisions:

  • Preventing PFAS, known as the “forever chemical,” from contaminating our water, schools and communities and demanding a report on the Pentagon’s progress on safe disposal of this chemical;
  • Advancing a Sense of the Congress that companies must stop helping Putin profit as he continues to wages war in Ukraine by commending companies that exit from the Russia – building off the popular and successful list created by Yale University professor Jeffrey Sonnenfeld;
  • Ensuring that U.S. foreign policy supports a Haitian-led transition to democracy and Haitian-led reconstruction and development of Haiti; and
  • Requiring the executive branch to provide a report on arms trafficking in Haiti, where U.S.-origin weapons are contributing to a surge in gang-related gun violence.
“I thank my Democratic and Republican colleagues who cosponsored these amendments and look forward to working with the Senate to get these provisions enacted into law.”
