Today, Congressman Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township), member of the House Education and Labor Committee, House Labor Caucus and longtime union organizer released the following statement after President Biden and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh announced a tentative agreement between railway unions and major rail companies:

“I applaud the railway unions, companies, President Biden and Secretary Walsh for their continued work to secure an agreement that ensures workers’ concerns about working conditions, healthcare, quality of life and paid time off are addressed comprehensively.

“This is a testament to the power of unions and worker solidarity, and I look forward to collaborating with all partners to safeguard our nation’s railway operations and supply chain. In particular, we need a national discussion about the damage so-called precision scheduled railroading continues to do to both employees and shippers who are subjected to it.”
