This Labor Day, I'm celebrating the victories for workers that Democrats have delivered. Skilled labor is the heart of our efforts to rebuild and renew America. Democrats know this and together, we are investing in job creation, training, and education to boost career development in the labor trades.
Apprentices and skilled trades workers received critical support in the Inflation Reduction Act, which became law last month. The bill provides up to $40 billion in tax credits for clean energy projects, and projects must employ apprentices for a percentage of their total project labor to take full advantage of the credits. They must also pay prevailing wages to workers. This is after Democrats passed the $1.2 trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This unprecedented funding is already flowing to every community in every state. Also, we passed the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, which will create rising demand for skilled labor across the trades well into the future.
While there's a lot to be excited about in these accomplishments, I'm still fighting because there is much more to do. We must protect workers' essential rights to organize. I was proud to vote for the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act when it passed the House last year. Now, we need to get it through the Senate. I'm committed to working on it until we succeed.
In the meantime, let's celebrate unprecedented new investment and President Biden's Administration, the most worker-friendly presidential administration in our lifetime.
