Earlier today, the office of Rep. Chris Stewart sent out a press release touting “critical funding” that he supposedly secured for Utah. In this press release, Rep. Stewart pats himself on the back for “sensibly allocating funds”’ for Utah in his role on the House Appropriations Committee, and then lists several projects which he claims to have secured funding for.
Those projects include money for water infrastructure, environmental cleanup, rural housing, road safety, and more. But here’s the thing: almost every single funding item that is listed in this release was passed earlier this year as part of the 2022 Consolidated Appropriations Act (H.R. 2471), a bill which Rep. Stewart voted against.
“This brazen and bald-faced lie from Chris Stewart is shameful. When it’s time to actually take a vote on important priorities for Utahns, he’s a ‘NO’. But now that election season is here, he’s more than happy to deceive his constituents by trying to take credit for funding that will help their communities – funding that he voted against just a few months ago,” said Diane Lewis, Chair of the Utah Democratic Party. “The people of Utah deserve better.”
We call on Rep. Stewart to come clean to the people of Utah and explain why he’s lying to his constituents about the funding included in H.R. 2471.
