Washington, DC – June 17, 2022....Following Democrat efforts that will exacerbate regulatory burdens on farmers, increase input costs, worsen food shortages and supply chain issues, and ultimately raise prices on American consumers, Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) urged a vote on his cosponsored Reducing Farm Input Costs and Barriers to Domestic Production Act bill. This solutions-focused proposal requires the Biden Administration to stop using regulatory barriers to limit U.S. agriculture production and provides immediate relief to farmers, producers, and families.
Congressman Womack said, “This is another crisis scenario. Putting meals on the table is getting harder for families. Emptier wallets and shelves have become commonplace, and costs continue to rise. As a full-blown global food shortage looms, the Biden Administration and House Democrats are targeting the very people who feed and fuel the nation. Their heavy-handed regulatory agenda will hammer our hardworking farmers and ranchers and limit domestic production. Policies need to help—not harm—the ability of our producers to grow, raise, and supply nutritious products.”
The bill Womack is urging action on:
- Provides relief from EPA’s unprecedented limitations on crop protection tools
- Offers clarity related to WOTUS regulations
- Rescinds the SEC’s harmful and costly proposed rule on climate-related disclosures
- Reinstates President Trump’s 2020 NEPA streamlining
- Requires a simple economic analysis on the costs and benefits of any new GIPSA rules before those rules can go into effect
Womack has been focused on lowering prices for Americans by supporting legislation, including the recently signed into law Ocean Shipping Reform Act, which bolsters supply chain strength. He also recently sent a letter to President Biden urging him to reverse the overly burdensome regulations and policy barriers to U.S. agriculture production that have caused needless uncertainty for farmers, ranchers, and working families.
