Washington, DC – June 24, 2022....Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) released the following statement after the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) released its decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. The ruling restores the ability of state and federal officials to enact new or additional pro-life measures, enabling Americans to further protect babies at all stages of life:

“The dignity and value of each human life has been upheld. This decision rightfully restores the American people’s ability to protect babies and recognizes the science-backed truths of the humanity of the unborn. The Supreme Court’s duty is to follow the Constitution and enact jurisprudence based in fact. Today, reason—not bullying and intimidation tactics—prevailed. Arkansans celebrate knowing the innocent lives and morality at the heart of this case have been given a voice.”

BACKGROUND:

Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization is a case involving a Mississippi law that limits abortion after 15 weeks. Science shows unborn children can feel pain by 15 weeks, if not earlier. With today’s decision, states will once again have the ability to advance laws that protect the lives of unborn babies at their earliest stages. Abortion policies will now be set by leaders—duly elected by the American people—instead of unelected judges. Congressman Womack is a staunch defender of life. He has continually supported important pro-life legislation and initiatives and also joined the amicus brief on the Dobbs case to uphold a state’s right to enact laws protecting life.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
