After witnessing the domestic terrorists incited by Donald Trump storm the US Capitol, Dr. Janelle Christensen announces the immediate suspension of her campaign for Chair of the Florida Democratic Party (FDP). She does this so all available efforts can be focused on holding those responsible accountable and preserving our democracy. Christensen and her family were also diagnosed with COVID-19 last week and are recovering.
“I, like many Americans, am deeply concerned about the events at the US Capitol yesterday and their long-term ramifications on our country. Democrats need to focus on stopping any further coup attempts and quelling the violence stoked by Trump,” Christensen states.
Dr. Christensen continues, “I thank my supporters immensely and I look forward to remaining active in Florida Democratic politics in whatever capacity I can to move us forward during these challenging times.”

Dr. Janelle Christensen is the current President of the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida (DECF). Under her leadership, she has streamlined and improved the organizational structure. She has a doctorate in medical anthropology and a master’s in public health. She works as an evaluator and data analyst. She recruited 33 candidates and supported up approximately 50 state legislative campaigns across Florida, including managing a state house race in 2018. Dr. Christensen garnered nationwide attention in 2020 for recruiting Candidates to run in every legislative race across Florida.
