CONGRESSWOMAN CINDY AXNE PUSHING FOR RURAL AREA TO RECEIVE VACCINES

Iowa

Congresswoman Cindy Axne is lobbying the federal government to spend more resources to help more rural areas receive an equal amount of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as more densely populated areas. Axne said rural areas need to receive a vaccine that doesn’t necessarily require cold storage, and shouldn’t be put to the wayside in favor of big cities.

“I get that we have more people in our urban areas, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t look to ensure there is equity in our rural vaccine distribution. And as somebody who grew up here in Iowa, my mom grew up in Milo and I represent a district that is very rural, my job has been to raise up our rural voice and make sure we get vaccines out to these rural areas as quickly as possible.”

Axne said she and her Republican Party colleagues who represent Iowa wrote a letter to the leaders of the Health and Human Services Department and the CDC to help make sure rural America isn’t being overlooked.
