“As long as I am Governor, Florida will always remain committed to being the education state.”
Governor Ron DeSantis today attended an event with Forward Action Fund, an advocacy group for equitable government funding for nonpublic schools, to promote Florida as the best state for educational freedom. The Governor attended an event in Boca Raton, Florida today.
“Florida has a bold approach to education and we are leading the way in school choice,” Governor DeSantis said. “Families have more choices in our K-12 system than in any other state in the country, with 1.3 million students in school choice programs. We believe parents have the right to choose the school that best fits their child’s needs. As long as I am Governor, Florida will always remain committed to being the education state.”
“We believe that every child should have the opportunity to attend the school that is best for them. Florida leads the nation in giving scholarships to make that a reality thanks to Governor DeSantis and our legislature,” said Mimi Jankovits, National Marketing and Finance Director of Forward Action Fund. “We look forward to continuing to work with our great elected officials to strengthen school choice. Through our votes and advocacy, the Jewish community will continue to stand up for these values and education freedom.”
The Forward Action Fund works to make nonpublic schools better, safer, and more affordable.
Background:
- Earlier this month, Heritage Action ranked Florida as the number one state for education on their Education Freedom Report Card: State Rankings for Parents.
- In 2018-19, there were 50 Jewish Day Schools in Florida that enrolled 10,623 students. Today, there are 69 Jewish Day Schools in Florida that enrolled over 13,300 children.
- Florida’s school choice options annually allow more than one million students to learn and grow in an educational setting that best fits their needs and is not just based on their zip code.
- In May of 2021, Governor DeSantis signed House Bill 7045, the largest expansion of school choice in the nation. This legislation provides more education opportunities for low-income families and students with unique abilities and prioritizes military, foster, and adopted students.
- Governor DeSantis expanded the state’s private school voucher program by $200 million and created scholarships like the Family Empowerment Scholarship which allows K-12 students with unique abilities and low-income students the option to attend private school.
