Floridians suffer as DeSantis pockets millions from insurance companies

“Ron DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history”

A new report finds Florida homeowners pay the highest property insurance rates in the nation, with average monthly premiums of $4,231, nearly three times the national average. The report brings home the devastating impact of Ron DeSantis’s failure to stand up to insurance companies, who have donated millions to his campaigns and doubled rates on his watch.

“Ron DeSantis is the worst property insurance governor in Florida history,” said Charlie Crist. “Buying or owning a home in Ron DeSantis’s Florida is simply not affordable. I forced insurers to bring rates down before and I will do it again. Ron is too busy spending taxpayer dollars on political stunts to hold the insurance companies accountable and protect homeowners from these ridiculous rate increases.”

The report also highlights the hundreds of thousands of Florida homeowners whose policies were dropped as a result of DeSantis’s inability to address the market crisis. Charlie Crist stood up to the property insurance companies as governor, securing a 10 percent drop in rates. His Affordable Florida for All plan includes detailed suggestions to hold insurers accountable and lower rates. Independent experts have described Crist’s plan as “tremendous” and a “massive, quick, quick fix for the market.”
