WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Representatives Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) and David Kustoff (TN-08) re-introduced the Stop Corrupt Iranian Oligarchs and Entities Act. This bill would direct the Department of the Treasury, in consultation with the Department of State and Director of National Intelligence (DNI), to identify and compile a list of Iranian oligarchs and entities that are ultimately profiting off the Iranian people. Iranian oligarchs and foreign political figures are determined by their closeness to the Iranian regime and their net worth.

"While ordinary Iranian citizens suffer during the global pandemic, their leaders continue to fund foreign adventurism and heinous terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, all the while enriching corrupt, regime-connected officials at their expense. This important bipartisan legislation will create a public report exposing the Khamenei regime’s corruption, distortion, and mismanagement of Iran’s economy, including funding foreign terrorists’ organizations which threaten the U.S and our ally Israel," said Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5).

“Over the past four decades, we have seen Iran become a leading state sponsor of terrorism, build up its nuclear weapons capability, and endanger countries in the Middle East, including our friend and ally Israel, with acts of terrorism,” said Congressman Kustoff. “While the Iranian regime enriches themselves and profits off of the corruption and mismanagement of their own economy, the Iranian middle class continues to struggle and suffer every day. It is essential we stand up to and place maximum pressure on Iran and its leaders to help expose the corrupt nature of this dangerous regime. I am proud to re-introduce this important piece of legislation with Rep. Gottheimer, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to stop the escalation of Iranian hostility in the region.”
