Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced that New Jersey will receive over $78 million to support mental health services and substance use disorder needs. New Jersey will receive $39,121,366 from the Community Mental Health Services Block Grant (MHBG) Program to provide comprehensive community mental health services and address needs and gaps in existing treatment services for those with serious mental illness. The state will also receive $38,907,646 from the Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant Program (SABG) to help the state plan, implement, and evaluate activities to prevent, treat, and help more people recover from substance use disorder.

The funding comes from provisions in the American Rescue Plan that Pallone authored and is distributed through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) in the Department of Health and Human Services.

“This is good news for our state. I’m glad to see more funding from the American Rescue Plan reach New Jersey. The COVID-19 pandemic made it clear that we need to do more to get help to New Jerseyans and Americans across the country who need mental health and substance use disorder treatment,” Pallone said. “The funding awarded today through the American Rescue Plan will go a long way towards helping those in need, and I will continue to work in Congress to ensure our state has the resources it needs to provide quality mental health care and substance use disorder treatment.”

Individuals searching for treatment for mental health or substance use disorders can find it by visiting https://findtreatment.samhsa.gov or by calling SAMHSA’s National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357).
