Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) announced $12,479,976 in new federal grants to fund infrastructure upgrades at the Des Moines and Perry airports.

Des Moines International Airport was awarded two grants to update 9,000 feet of existing runway, totaling $7,560,126. Perry Municipal Airport was awarded $4,919,850 to reconstruct and protect 4,000 feet of runway.

These grants are awarded through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The AIP grant program funds airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting, and airport markings. The grants strengthen our nation's aviation infrastructure.

“Iowa’s airports are key economic drivers that help transport both goods and people in and out of Iowa’s Third Congressional District. These grants will help keep cargo, pilots, and travelers safe while visiting our wonderful state,” Rep. Axne said. “I’m pleased to see these federal dollars being spent right here in the Third District so our airports can continue operating efficiently and able to upgrade and grow their facilities to meet the needs of Central Iowa.”

Rep. Axne has consistently supported the funding for airport infrastructure. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provided $25 billion towards airport infrastructure, with at least $120 million coming to Iowa. Earlier this year, Rep Axne voted for $273 million for airport improvement grants in FY22 appropriations.
