Rep. Axne Statement on President’s Executive Order to Protect Abortion Rights

Iowa

Today, Rep. Cindy Axne (IA-03) released this statement after President Biden signed a new executive order to safeguard access to abortion and contraception:

“In just a few short weeks, we’ve already begun to see the devastation that has followed the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Women and girls are being denied abortions in their home states and are having to travel across state lines to get the medical care they need.

While I’m pleased to see President Biden taking action to protect access to abortion and other reproductive health services, we know that this is just one of the many steps that we must take to protect a woman’s right to bodily autonomy.

We have to meet this moment and codify Roe v. Wade. Women should be in charge of their own bodies, not the government, and have access to the resources they need to stay healthy and plan their families on their own terms.

I will continue to fight until every woman in Iowa and across this country has the power to once again make their own medical decisions.”
