Parsippany, NJ–– Representative Sherrill (NJ-11) announced last week the winners of her fourth annual Congressional Art Competition for high school students in New Jersey's 11th District at an in-person reception at Montclair State University where all the participants' submissions were displayed.
The following students earned distinction for their pieces:
First Place: Sofia Carroll, James Caldwell High School, "Self Portrait"
Second Place: Yunfeng Wu, Livingston High School, "Chaos and Resilience"
Third Place: Kaitlyn Cioc, Sparta High School, "Deadlock"
"It was wonderful to be able to gather again for our annual Congressional Art Competition in-person and enjoy a gallery full of beautiful art created by NJ-11 high school students. I knew we had talented students in our district, but it was truly amazing to walk around this gallery and see the level of artistic talent and self-expression on display," said Rep. Sherrill. "Thank you to every student who participated and to this year's judges. Congratulations to Sofia, Yunfeng, and Kaitlyn and well done to everyone who participated!"
Submissions were reviewed by Montclair State University art and humanities professors Nicole Archer, Christopher Kaczmarek, and Christopher Parker.
Sofia's piece "Self Portrait" will be displayed in the US Capitol for the coming year alongside the winning pieces from every congressional district in the country.
