Asbury Park, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) held a press conference today with local elected officials and environmental advocates on new funding for electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Pallone recently announced that New Jersey will receive $15,448,790 to build out the state’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, paving the way for a more robust and convenient network of chargers across New Jersey. The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will help boost domestic manufacturing, keep American automakers competitive in the global transition to electric vehicles, and fight the climate crisis through slashing greenhouse gas pollution.

“The funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is a major step forward in our transition to a clean economy that will create local, good-paying jobs while simultaneously combating the growing climate crisis,” Pallone said. “Electric vehicles save Americans tremendous money and help reduce carbon pollution at the same time. As their popularity continues to increase, it’s crucial that we invest in the necessary charging and manufacturing infrastructure to ensure owning an electric vehicle is convenient and that consumers are able to reliably power their cars across the country. It’s great to see towns like Asbury Park are already benefitting from this new technology, and I look forward to seeing our state build on this progress with help from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”

“We are proud to support electric vehicles in Asbury Park and lead the charge along the Jersey Shore to help reduce our carbon footprint,” said Mayor John Moor. “Being green and planning for a healthy future is important to the City of Asbury Park. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will definitely help to move the needle on achieving that future.”

"Greenspot is a New Jersey-based end-to-end electric vehicle charging infrastructure provider that works with the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Ultimately, our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable methods of transportation that mitigate the reliance on fossil fuels,” said Joseph Desimone, Chief Operating Officer. “Our mission has always been to accelerate electric vehicle adoption by providing sustainable infrastructure that will be around for decades to come and will help make sure consumers are able to charge their cars wherever they go.”

“The New Jersey Clean Cities Coalition salutes and appreciates Congressman Pallone’s leadership on bringing about the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and his work to help boost domestic manufacturing, keep American automakers competitive in the global transition to electric vehicles, and fight the climate crisis by slashing greenhouse gas pollution,” said Chuck Feinberg. “The funding that will be available to New Jersey is critically important, very timely, and will go a long way to accelerate the work of our Coalition in advancing the transition to cleaner transportation fuels.”

“We are excited that the bipartisan infrastructure law will invest more than $100 million over five years in charging station to expand the use of clean, electric vehicles in New Jersey," said Kai Mateo, New Jersey League of Conservation Voters Federal Climate Campaign Manager. “As the sector of our economy that causes the most carbon pollution, transitioning to a clean transportation infrastructure is absolutely vital to avert a climate catastrophe. However, this amount, while significant, represents only a small percentage of the investments needed to accomplish our climate reduction goals, and that's why we're proud to continue working with Representative Pallone on passing the rest of President Biden's climate plan through Congress.”

“To electrify our transportation sector, we need to create a charging infrastructure network for electric vehicle drivers that can end range anxiety and make EV charging as omnipresent as gas stations. Electric vehicles are here but we need more places to charge them. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law delivered with a down payment to build this network so we can tackle our largest source of climate emissions – the cars and trucks we drive,” said Doug O’Malley, director of Environment New Jersey. “Thank you to Rep. Pallone for championing these EV investments and for fighting for historic climate investment legislation in Washington – more places to plug in at Asbury Park and across the state means more ways we can fight climate change.”

“Electric vehicles are here to stay and building the necessary infrastructure to electrify them throughout New Jersey will help to take us to the imaginable day when we see more electric cars on the roads than gasoline and diesel. This infrastructure will help pave the way for cleaner air, cleaner communities who are suffering from a disproportionate amount of air pollution, and affordable and efficient vehicles for everyone, including the school buses our children ride on,” said Anjuli Ramos-Busot, NJ Director for the Sierra Club. “We thank Congressman Pallone for his leadership role as Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee in ensuring that New Jersey gets the resources to continue the most important transition of our century, the transition out of fossil fuels.”

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law included a total of $7.5 billion in grants for electric vehicle charging stations and alternative fuel infrastructure. The funding is part of the effort to construct the first-ever national network of EV chargers and will deploy chargers across both urban and rural areas. As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Pallone supported this funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill that was signed into law last November to boost domestic manufacturing, help keep American automakers competitive in the global transition to electric vehicles, and fight the climate crisis.
