Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced that New Jersey will receive $87,212,248 from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to assist eligible families retrofit their homes with energy efficiency upgrades, helping them save money on their energy bills and reduce carbon pollution at the same time. The funding will be made available through grants from the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP). This funding will also expand weatherization services, help create jobs, and support economic opportunities in underserved communities. As Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, Pallone reauthorized the law and fought for this funding in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law so that families have access to the funding they need to improve home efficiency and lower their electricity bills.

“Funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is on the way to help families improve energy efficiency at home and reduce the burden of energy costs. I fought for this funding because I know how absolutely essential it is that every family can afford to power their home, so I’m glad to see this assistance is coming to New Jersey,” Pallone said. “The Weatherization Assistance Program is a commonsense program that helps low-income families reduce the high cost of energy while reducing carbon emissions and making homes in our state more energy efficient. I’ll continue to fight in Congress for policies that help families in New Jersey keep costs down.”

Low-income households carry a larger burden for energy costs, forcing them to cut back on essential services and care to pay for energy bills. Residential home weatherization helps reduce this energy burden through cost-effective building shell improvements, including insulation and air sealing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, and appliances.
