NEW YORK, NY - Today, Congressman Lee Zeldin (R, NY-1), a United States Army veteran, spoke before the 2022 Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run & Walk. The annual charity race, held in New York City, takes place each year on the last Sunday of September and raises money for Tunnel to Towers’ programs that benefit first responders, wounded veterans and their families.

The race honors the memory of Stephen Siller, who courageously and famously ran with 60 lbs of firefighter equipment from the entrance of Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center, where he would lose his life saving others in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001.

“This is the greatest nation in the history of the world, and that is nothing for any of us to ever apologize for. As we look around today and see the West Point cadets, NYPD officers, firefighters, and all the men and women here who are willing to give up their lives in defense of our freedom and liberty, we are reminded that there’s never a bad day to be an American. Thank you to Frank Siller and his team at Tunnel to Towers for doing their part to care for those who have sacrificed everything for this nation and prove that American exceptionalism today is as great as ever before,” said Congressman Zeldin.
