Long Branch, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone Jr. (NJ-06) today announced the start of 2022 Congressional App Challenge, a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) competition for middle and high school students in New Jersey’s 6th Congressional District.
The Congressional App Challenge began in 2015 as an annual competition conducted by Members of the U.S. House of Representatives in their districts. The competition encourages students to explore STEM education and highlights the value of computer science. For the 2021 Congressional App Challenge, Pallone’s office received 16 submissions from 9 different schools in his district.
“The Congressional App Challenge is an important platform for students to showcase their skills in programming and computer science and support the next generation’s interest in STEM subjects. As the Chairman of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will continue to support investments in STEM education so that our country remains at the forefront of innovation and research. I am looking forward to seeing this year’s submissions and encourage everyone who has an idea to submit it for the competition,” said Pallone.
Students must register and submit their apps by November 1, 2022. Only apps created after November 1, 2021 are eligible for submission. Entries will be assessed by a panel of local experts on several criteria, including demonstrated knowledge of coding and programming skills as well as the quality and implementation of their ideas. The winning app will be featured on the official website of the U.S. House of Representatives and will be put on display in the U.S. Capitol along with winners from Congressional districts across the country.
