Washington, D.C. – Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement today after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) denied marketing authorization and ordered JUUL tobacco products off the market:
“I applaud FDA for following the science and taking this decisive stance to protect our nation’s public health by taking these dangerous products off the market.
“While I have long held concerns that JUUL used enticing flavors and slick marketing to get young people hooked on their products, these new revelations that JUUL’s pods are leaching dangerous chemicals is deeply alarming.
“There is no question that FDA did the right thing today. I do not believe these dangerous products should be on the market in the first place, but especially when they are poisoning Americans with toxic chemicals.
“I remain committed to working together with FDA to address teen smoking and vaping and to reverse the dangerous trends that resulted in the youth vaping epidemic. Today marks a pivotal step forward in our united effort to protect the health and well-being of Americans.”
