Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) today announced that he secured $6 million for the Carteret Ferry Terminal in the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development spending bill for Fiscal Year 2023. The House is expected to vote on the underlying legislation in the coming months.
The terminal is an important part of Carteret's efforts to run a ferry from Central New Jersey to downtown Manhattan. The funding will be used to support the construction of the multimodal terminal currently ongoing in the Borough that will facilitate transfers between the ferry, NJ TRANSIT bus routes, cars, and nearby pedestrian and bicycle paths.
“I’m proud that Carteret will continue to receive support for its ferry terminal project. Once completed, the ferry will allow New Jersey residents and tourists to easily travel between New Jersey and downtown Manhattan. This funding will deliver efficient and reliable transportation options to residents in Central New Jersey and will help reduce vehicle congestion,” Pallone said. “I look forward to seeing this project move through the legislative process.”
“The residents of Carteret and commuters in Central New Jersey appreciate Congressman Pallone's efforts to propose and support this much needed federal funding included in this appropriations bill, which will help develop this intermodal transportation building,” said Carteret Mayor Daniel Reiman. “For too long New Jersey has received far less then what it sends to Washington, DC., and this project represents direct congressional action and appropriations of federal dollars, so that elected Members of Congress can work with local stake holders to identify and fund much needed infrastructure and community projects at the local and state level.”
