South Amboy, NJ – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. and Mayor Fred Henry today announced that South Amboy will receive $4.9 million to help rebuild the city’s infrastructure. The federal funding comes from the American Rescue Plan that House Democrats passed and President Biden signed into law in 2021. The funds are distributed through the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA).
The city will use the funding to repair roads and sewers to bolster economic development and construct three industrial redevelopment projects, including the construction of two warehouse distribution centers. It is estimated that the funding will create 390 jobs and generate $1.1 million in private investment.
“I’m glad to see that South Amboy will receive $4.9 million from the American Rescue Plan to help the city rebuild its infrastructure and provide better services for residents. It’s great to see the American Rescue Plan delivering for New Jersey and providing the federal funding our state needs to create jobs and make critical repairs to infrastructure,” Pallone said. “I’m grateful to Secretary Raimondo for her leadership as we work together to ensure equitable investment in our communities. I commend Mayor Henry for recognizing and capitalizing on good opportunities like this one that help make South Amboy a great place to live.”
“As we continue to reclaim former industrial sites along our waterfront to make them available for their best use, Congressman Pallone has been a tireless supporter of our efforts. This funding from the EDA would not have been possible without his advocacy and support,” Mayor Fred Henry said. “Through his ongoing efforts South Amboy and all of the waterfront communities in his district have made incredible progress toward flood resiliency, equity, and developing good paying sustainable job opportunities. We are grateful for his support.”
This project is funded under the Economic Adjustment Assistance Program established through the American Rescue Plan. Grants made under this program will help hundreds of communities across the nation plan, build, innovate, and put people back to work through projects designed to meet local needs.
