Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) joined a Congressional delegation to Yerevan, Armenia over the weekend with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Congresswoman Anna Eshoo, and Congresswoman Jackie Speier. Pallone is a Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues.
The trip highlighted the strong support of the United States for Armenia after Azerbaijan recently escalated deadly attacks on Armenian territory. During the trip, the Members met with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan, and Speaker Alen Simonyan. The Members also visited the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex in Yerevan.
“I was proud to join Speaker Pelosi and my colleagues in representing the United States Congress in Armenia at a critical moment in the Republic’s history. This was the most valuable trip I have ever made to Armenia. We are very concerned about Armenia’s security and want to do whatever we can to be more supportive of its defense against any future threat from Azerbaijan,” Pallone said. “As Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Armenian Issues, I will continue to help bolster Armenia’s democracy, hold Aliyev accountable for his hostility toward Armenia and push for a closer relationship between our countries. There is only one aggressor in this conflict, and Azerbaijan must end its attacks on Armenian and remove its troops from all Armenian territory.”
Pallone has been a longtime supporter of Armenia. In March, he spearheaded House passage of provisions in a federal spending bill that strengthened aid to Armenia and held Azerbaijan accountable. He has also joined Members of Congress in urging the Biden Administration to provide meaningful aid to Artsakh.
