Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) voted in favor of the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act, which will protect Granite State workers' right to stand together and bargain for fairer wages, better benefits, and safer workplaces.
"Working families are the engine that drives New Hampshire's economy, and unfortunately all too often we've seen the right to organize for better wages, safe conditions, and full benefits come under attack," said Congressman Pappas. "Now more than ever, as working people continue to struggle from the devastating economic impacts of this pandemic, these rights are essential. The PRO Act will help strengthen our middle class by ensuring workers have the ability to stand together to negotiate fair wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. Unions built the middle class in this country and play a critical role supporting American workers. I am proud to support legislation that will ensure those who put in a hard day's work have a seat at the table and a say in their future."
"Working people deserve fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize to make their lives better," said Glenn Brackett NH AFL-CIO President. "Throughout this pandemic, middle class Granite Staters have been hit incredibly hard, and that is why the PRO Act is so important and why I thank Congressman Pappas for standing up for working families to support this legislation."
The PRO Act ensures that workers can decide for themselves whether to exercise their right to form a union by;
- Providing tools to protect workers from anti-union intimidation and retaliation;
- Establishing stronger safeguards to ensure workers can hold free and fair union elections; and
- Introducing meaningful penalties for companies ⎯ and executives ⎯ that violate workers' collective bargaining rights.
