Washington, DC – Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) released the following statement on the announcement that the federal government will begin the process of auctioning the offshore wind rights in areas within the New York Bight off the coast of New Jersey:

"New Jersey is perfectly poised to be a nationwide – and global – leader in the renewable offshore wind space. Today's announcement that the Administration is beginning the auction process for the rights to establish offshore wind farms in areas in the New York bight, off New Jersey's coast is another crucial step in meeting that potential.

"Between the steps New Jersey has already taken, and the support for renewable offshore wind included in the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, New Jerseyans are sure to see the economic, ecological, and energy-saving benefits of wind-power.

"The sale of these offshore wind rights, the jobs that will be created by these wind farms, and the savings New Jerseyans will feel when more clean energy begins flowing through our grid will mean money directly in the pockets of New Jersey families.

"I look forward to continuing to do everything I possibly can to support this expansion of offshore wind in New Jersey and the expansion of our clean energy economy that this project will drive."
