Washington, DC –– Today, Representative Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) introduced legislation, H.R. 6172, to establish a unique ZIP Code for Kinnelon, New Jersey. Kinnelon Borough currently shares a ZIP Code of 07405 with Butler, causing postal delays, misdelivered items including heavy construction materials, and most importantly, the potential for dangerous confusion for first responders, particularly on roads with identical street names.

"Kinnelon residents and elected officials have urged the Postal Service to designate a unique ZIP Code for their town for years to no avail through traditional processes," said Representative Mikie Sherrill. "It was time to pursue a different solution to this problem through legislation. Establishing a unique ZIP Code will reduce headaches with the postal service and other delivery services, as well as improve public safety by removing confusion for first responders. Kinnelon is a vibrant community with a unique identity and it is essential that they have a ZIP Code of their own. I urge my colleagues to support this commonsense change and I will continue to advocate for Kinnelon until we get this done."

"Kinnelon thanks Congresswoman Sherrill for standing by our side and fighting for us," said Kinnelon Mayor Jim Freda. "We have been working on this zip code issue for many years and appreciate her commitment to looking for a different path to resolve it."

From the disastrous consequences of policy changes implemented by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy in 2020 to supply chain issues halting package deliveries -- residents across the country, including in Kinnelon, have experienced unprecedented postal delays in recent years. Kinnelon's postal concerns extend beyond these widespread issues and this legislation seeks to alleviate the ongoing problems by assigning Kinnelon a dedicated zip code.
